The National Capital Region Selects K2Share SPARS to Manage its DHS Data

19 January 2007

COLLEGE STATION, TX – The National Capital Region (NCR), consisting of the District of Columbia; Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties of Maryland; Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon, and Prince William Counties of Virginia, has selected K2Share’s State Preparedness Assessment and Reporting Service (SPARS) to manage and maintain all of its required grant monitoring, readiness evaluation, and bi-annual reporting to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
SPARS is an electronic grant management system (EGMS) that provides the NCR’s State Administrator Agency (SAA) Division with the capability to manage its 11 local jurisdictions, two states, and the District of Columbia.

“The real-time data management capabilities of SPARS will now assist one of the nations largest metropolitan areas in its homeland security grant management activities.  SPARS will improve the ability of the NCR to assist the first responders who serve the nation’s capital and surrounding area,” SPARS Program Manager Mr. Seals said. “Through use of the SPARS application, the NCR SAA has more time to review and evaluate the grant process, while spending less manpower on collecting data and preparing reports.”
The K2Share SPARS solution provides the NCR with SAA service to all its jurisdictions, updates and upgrades to the software, and a toll-free help desk for state and local users.

“K2Share is honored to have earned the trust of the National Capital Region. We are proud to provide a solution that will enable this vital, historic area to effectively manage its DHS grants,” said Mr. Falzoi, K2Share Client Services Manager.

The Governor’s Division of Emergency Management SAA Section administers a number of different US Department of Homeland Security grant programs designed to enhance state, regional, and local homeland security. These grants are provided to cities, counties, regional authorities, state agencies, and other authorized entities for terrorism detection and prevention programs, and terrorism and natural disaster preparedness activities. The SAA Section includes a Grant Operations Unit, an Audit & Compliance Unit, and a Business Operations Unit.
