K2Share Security Team Presents at ConSec 2008 Conference

07 October 2008

COLLEGE STATION, Texas The K2Share Security Team recently presented at the 2008 Southwest Regional Symposium on Business Continuity, Information Security, and IT Audit, also known as ConSec. The conference was held September 22-25, 2008, at the Austin Renaissance Hotel, located in Austin, Texas.

At the conference, K2Share Information Systems Security Manager Kent Knudsen presented a breakout session entitled, “Risk Management Best Practices.” This presentation focused on the area of IT risk management and how to tailor industry best practices to provide a solution that utilizes compensating controls; IT security metrics; and third-party, independent review to develop a successful security strategy.

“I was pleased to see that approximately 70 individuals attended the session,” said Mr. Knudsen. “In addition to the fact that it communicated valuable information, we received several positive comments on how well received the presentation was.”

Additionally, K2Share President and CEO Dr. Larry Teverbaugh presented K2Share’s solutions for today’s IT challenges at one of the Focused Solution sessions. These sessions were intended to give attendees specific product knowledge in an atmosphere where they could ask questions.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to share our Information Systems Security lessons learned and industry best practices with the agencies and organizations participating in ConSec 2008. We believe that it is important for state agencies to understand and prepare for the occurrence of data breaches and the increasing threats associated with cyber terrorism,” said Dr. Teverbaugh.

The focus of ConSec 2008 was to illustrate how to apply risk management theories to real-world security challenges. This year’s conference was sponsored by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) and the Austin chapters of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), and the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP).
